Hey, when you’re the Federation’s toughest starship staffed by an ace crew like Kirk and company, you’re going to need some insurance against mean aliens, worm holes, time travel, and all that other sci-fi spacey stuff. Which probably explains why “Star Trek” is teaming up with Esurance for all kinds of things, including this new 90-second behind-the-scenes “Inside Look” featurette that you can check out below. Nice to see Abrams sticking to the company line and hyping the film’s 3D.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Peter Weller, Bruce Greenwood, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

J.J. Abrams and the Starship Enterprise takes off again May 17, 2013.

While not my TOS, it sure looks exciting. I may have to go see it on IMAX. The overall look of the characters and sets sure makes me wish they had gone the TV series route instead. I miss weekly ST on the television.
