New Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Trailer Pours on the Adventure, Less Tomfoolery

If you saw the first trailer (or the featurette) for director Brad Peyton’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”, you’d get the impression the film is a kiddie family movie where all members of the family should have a pretty decent time, 3D glasses and all. But according to this second trailer recently released by Warner Bros., there’s a bit of serious adverturin’ going on in “Journey 2″ and that it isn’t necessarily all for the kiddies. The truth, I suspect, lies somewhere in-between — lots of running around and adventure, but probably nothing TOO serious like life and death and what have you. Anyways, get another eyeful of the mysterious island below.

In this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” the new 3D family adventure “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

Starring Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán, and Kristin Davis (who is nowhere to be seen in either trailer, surprisingly).

The journey begins January 27, 2012.
