New Jupiter Ascending Trailer Brings Out the Firepower (And the Spaceships)

The curious thing about the Wachowskis’ latest, “Jupiter Ascending,” is that it looks ridiculously cool, with crazy CGI flying ships and fights and alien worlds and what have you. And yet, I feel so utterly … underwhelmed. I just don’t know what they’re trying to sell here. The action? The space? Mila Kunis as our savior? Whatever it is, they’re probably going to need a new approach, because I dunno, I’ve seen two trailers already for the movie, and I’m still not all that impressed. Which is weird, because I should be, because this is totally in my wheelhouse! I love this stuff!

Anyways, check out the second trailer for “Jupiter Ascending,” along with two new posters featuring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. Nice tats, Magic Mike.

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D’Arcy, and Tim Pigott-Smith.

Mila saves the universe this July 18th.

Damn Nix! Was hoping this would get your sci-fi blood pumping. Looked interesting, but yeah I get what you’re saying. No idea what’s really going on.

I mean, it’s not BAD. It just feels too much like … too much. Like they’re throwing things at the screen they think look cool to get you to go “Wow!” with them. The trailers for “Cloud Atlas” looked more coherent — and that movie was crazy complex.
