New Legend of the Red Reaper Trailer Features Demons, Swordplay, and Lots of Red

There aren’t a lot of modern indie movies that feature women in lead roles kicking ass. I mean, there are a handful of major Hollywood films out there — “Haywire,” the “Underworld” franchise, and most movies starring Maggie Q or Milla Jovovich immediately spring to mind — but young girls who are into action flicks currently don’t have a lot of female heroes at their disposal.

When you look at the indie film scene, the well is practically dry. And while there are some women kicking copious amounts of ass in independent cinema, they are truly few and far between. In my humble opinion, that’s a damn shame.

One lady who’s out there doing her thing is Tara Cardinal. She gets a lot of press here at Beyond Hollywood, and that’s all because she’s trying to make things happen. In addition to teaming up with Lou Ferrigno for “Liberator” and filming the action/horror hybrid “Scarlet Samurai,” she has been busy putting the finishing touches on “Legend of the Red Reaper.” When it comes to indie action, you’d be hard pressed to find a woman who works harder.

If all goes according to her master plan, then the flick should finally see release either this year or in early 2014. Either way, it’s kind of exciting that it’s finally on its way. Like Suki Singh’s long-awaited mystery “Emulsion,” it was one of the first films that I really started following at BH. It’s nice to see these projects finally come to fruition.

Check out the official “Red Reaper” synopsis:

For a thousand years, the Reapers guarded mankind from the demons that wait in the dark. Now, at the beginning of a new age, the Reapers are betrayed and slaughtered. Only one Reaper remains — Red, and she’s out to exact revenge.

The latest trailer for “Legend of the Red Reaper” has been embedded below. It’s cool to see that Tara Cardinal is fostering strong female-driven action flicks that aren’t designed for undersexed middle-aged men. More of this needs to happen. And soon.
