New Resident Evil Retribution Featurette Takes Over Red Square

According to this new featurette, in order to replicate Red Square in Moscow, the filmmakers of “Resident Evil: Retribution” had to manually scan the entire area by hand, put it into a computer, and created a CG version of the place. That’s, uh, pretty damn cool. Seriously, the stuff they’re coming up with just for movies — for 90 minutes of entertainment, essentially — is ridiculous. Just to think, twenty years ago filmmakers still had to paint backgrounds by hand. Wow. Mind you, I’m not saying one is better than the other, but my oh my, time sure has a’changed…

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

The film stars Milla Jovovich, Kevin Durand, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Johann Urb, Bingbing Li, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Colin Salmon, and is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

Alice and company saves the day September 14, 2012.
