Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi monster flick “Pacific Rim” is still chugging along in its little corner of the universe. Heck, it’s been so quiet from the film’s set that you wonder if it’s a $100-plus million dollar Summer tentpole movie or some low-budget indie family drama. We’ve gotten an official image here and there, but now check out four new images from the film courtesy of scans from Empire Magazine. Still no looks at those giant mechs aka Jaegars that the humans pilot to do battle with the monsters. All the images we’ve seen so far have been somewhat underwhelming, to be perfectly honest with you and now these four new looks. Meh.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
The film stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Max Martini, Robert Maillet, Burn Gorman, Rinko Kikuchi, Heather Doerksen, and Larry Joe Campbell.
The Pacific Rim goes to battle July 12th, 2013.
