Let’s face it, director Camille Delamarre’s “Brick Mansions,” the remake of the French series by Luc Besson, adapted by Besson himself, is going to be ridiculous. It’ll have a borderline nonsensical script, with a major plot twist in the third act that will make absolutely no sense, and there will be some lame attempts at social commentary. But the action will be awesome and the two heroes will look really cool as they run around future Detroit kicking butt. That description also describes the French originals, by the way.
Check out the second trailer for “Brick Mansions.” It’s got all the wacky plotting and cool action that I’ve been promising. Plus RZA supposedly playing some kind of evil mastermind. Hmmm, okay.
In a dystopian Detroit, abandoned brick mansions left from better times now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, the police constructed a colossal containment wall around this area to protect the rest of the city. For undercover cop Damien Collier (Paul Walker) every day is a battle against corruption. For Lino (David Belle), every day is a fight to live an honest life. Their paths never should have crossed, but when drug kingpin, Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino’s girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts the help of the fearless ex-convict, and together they must stop a sinister plot to devastate the entire city. With stylized action featuring thrilling Parkour stunts (David Belle is the co-founder of the physical training discipline), Brick Mansions puts an entertaining twist on the action genre.
Starring Paul Walker, David Belle and RZA.
Parkouring in Detroit this April 25th.
