New Zealand Horror-Comedy Black Sheep Trailer, Poster, and Images

How long has it been since New Zealand gave us a good horror-comedy? Um, I don’t recall the Kiwis ever having delivered, but hey, better never than late, right? (Or is it the other way around? I forget which, too much sheep burgers in the morning shrinks the brain.) Anyhoo, the horror-comedy in question is “Black Sheep”, a sort of sheep-zombie movie. Basically, “Shepard of the Dead”. Har har, get it? (Ahem, sorry.) But in any case, IFC Films sent us a bunch of images from the movie, the poster, and trailer links. Enjoy.

Terrified of sheep and dosed up on therapy, Henry Oldfield (Nathan Meister) returns to his family’s farm to sell out to his older brother Angus (Peter Feeney), unaware that something baaaad is going on: Angus’ reckless genetic engineering program.

When a pair of inept environmental activists release a mutant lamb from Angus’ laboratory onto the farm, thousands of sheep are turned into bloodthirsty predators. Along with farmhand Tucker (Tammy Davis) and greenie girl Experience (Danielle Mason), Henry finds himself stranded deep on the farm as his worst nightmare comes to life.

Battling their way to safety the intrepid trio discover there’s worse to come: one bite from an infected sheep seems to have alarming effect on those bitten …

With Angus acting suspiciously sheepish, a delegation of international investors gathering at the homestead and a ravenous flock descending from the hills, Henry must find the farmer within to wrest control of the farm from his monstrous brother, defeat an ovine invasion and save New Zealand’s pastures green.

“Black Sheep” stars Oliver Driver, Peter Feeney, Tammy Davis, Danielle Mason, Nathan Meister, and is directed by Jonathan King. Baaaaaaad voodoo happens in limited release June 22, 2007.

That’s what I wanted to point out also: Bad Taset, Braindead, Meet the Feebles are all fantastic Horror Comedies from NZ that deserve to be mentioned. And hasn’t PJ’s The Frighteners also been from NZ? I’m definitely looking forward to Black Sheep.

I meant Bad Taste, sorry, typo. You may correct it and delete this commentary, if you like.

PJ did indeed start off in NZ with horror/comedy as mentioned above, including The Frighteners, which starred Michael J Fox. Have seen the earlier films and can’t wait to see the latest. Go the black sheep.

Ignoring the Jackson pop comedies, we have: The Scarecrow(1982), Dead Kids(1981), Death Warmed Up (1985), Dark of the Night(1985), Trial Run(1984), would Heavenly Creatures count too, a lot of the kiwi scifi got into horror too, e.g. The quiet Eartth(1985)… Then there’s the other upcoming movies: Perfect Creature(2006), The Ferryman(2006)…
