Next on the Remake Chopping Block: Re-Animator
Horror Movie News, Re-Animator (Remake) Movie — By Nix on March 2, 2009 |
Stuart Gordon, creator of the “Re-Animator” franchise, recently tried to get the latest installment of his horror series made, but ran up against political correctness. Or as Gordon tells it, people loves George W. Bush so much, they can’t stand a movie mocking him. (Obviously Gordon believes this, as he’s kind of loopy in the head.) Apparently with Obama in office, the mega love for Dubya is gone, and now it’s time for … “Re-Animator” the Reboot! (Just go along with it.)
Says STYD:
ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned producer Ray Haboush is developing a remake of Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator. Haboush operates Automatic Media and is the owner of Halcyon International Pictures. He’ll be shepherding the project with Brian Yuzna, producer of the original ‘85 and director of Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator.
So instead of a sequel, they’re going with a reboot of the original. No doubt the recent box office wonders of the “Friday the 13th” reboot had every wannabe producer scrambling to find a horror franchise to remake. And word is the new version of “Re-Animator” will be in 3D, just like “My Bloody Valentine”, which was also a pretty big hit.
The 1985 original starred Jeffrey Combs as a doctor who liked experimenting with a green goo that can bring the dead back to life. Much havoc, as they say, ensue. Later installments of the franchise found Combs’ Doctor Herbert West in some East European prison bringing more dead bodies back to life. It’s kind of a hobby with the dude.
Below: “So, er, Doctor West, she signed her ‘Let some weirdo experiment on my dead body’ card, right? Doctor West?”
