Next on the Remake Chopping Block: Teen Wolf

Teen Wolf (Remake) Movie — By Nix on June 18, 2009

The boyos at Moviehole tells us that the latest piece of ’80s nostalgic cinema to get the remake treatment will be Michael J. Fox’s 1985 teen comedy “Teen Wolf”. You remember, “Teen Wolf”, don’t you? Fox starred as a high school basketball player who is about a foot too short to actually play basketball, but all that changes once he discovers his wolf heritage and becomes a hard court sensation as a hairy, dunking, and, er, break dancing teen werewolf. Talk about awkward high school years!

Moviehole says the remake will be coming to us courtesy of Warner Bros., who snagged rights to the movie about a half dozen years ago, but is just now gearing up the remake. Word is, the movie is currently out to writers, and the studio has yet to decide what direction to take with the remake. It’s probably a slam dunk (pun very much intended) that they’ll go the goofy high school comedy route. After all, it is a movie about a teen who turns into a wolf, which allows him to do somersaults on top of moving vans. What’re you gonna do, go the gritty, teen angst route?

The 1985 original proved so popular that it spawned a sequel (”Teen Wolf Too”) starring Jason Bateman as a boxing teen werewolf, as well as a short-lived TV cartoon show. Apparently being a teen werewolf means you become automatically good at sports. Go figure.
