Nicolas Winding Refn Will Direct Denzel Washington in The Equalizer

Denzel Washington in Training Day (2001) Movie ImageNicolas Winding Refn made Ryan Gosling cool in “Drive”, and now he’s Sony Pictures’ choice to make Denzel Washington just as cool in “The Equalizer”. Well, it probably wouldn’t take much to make Washington cool in the movie. Or at least, it would take a hell of a lot less than making Gosling cool.

In any case, Refn, currently directing his “Drive” BFF in the Thailand-based crime drama “Only God Forgives” (check out some pics from that bash-a-ton here), is said to be “in negotiations” with the studio to board “The Equalizer”, based on the ’80s TV series that starred Brit Edward Woodward as a laconic ex-spy who helps the downtrodden in America.

In the big-screen remake, Washington will play essentially the same character caught up in the same set-up. His hero is described as “a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.”

Washington is coming off “Flight”, and before that, was cooler than the other side of the pillow in the spy actioner “Safe House”. Basically, dude was tailor made for a role like this.

Wow, Denzel Washington, coupled with winding, that’s something to look forward to. Denzel never dissappoints, and Winding really knows how to capture the magic like no other director.
