No Catwoman and Penguin for Batman Begins 3

Batman Begins 3 Movie, Comic Book Movie News, The Dark Knight (2008) Movie — By Nix on July 11, 2008

Thank God someone over there has some sense, even if I don’t always like how he goes about writing them into the movies. The guy in question is David Goyer, who recently spoke to Digital Spy and made it very clear that he and the Batman Begins gang has no plans to introduce either Catwoman or The Penguin into “Batman Begins 3″, or whatever it ends up being called. Damn straight, Goyer. Why keep re-introducing the same bloody characters, when Batman’s Rogues Gallery is as massive as it is? They got it right by using Ra’s Al Ghul in the first one, and I suppose it was inevitable that the Joker eventually showed up in the second one.

Here’s what Goyer said:

“Batman has been published for 70 years. In the first movie, we used Ra’s Al Ghul and the Scarecrow, who had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the ’60s TV show before.

“There are dozens if not hundreds of other characters that fit that bill. Everyone says it’s got to be the Penguin or Catwoman [in the next film]… well I completely disagree.”

My suggestions for villains in the third one: Two-Face. That’s it. Aaron Eckhart vs. Christian Bale. Is that too much to ask?

Although I have to admit, if they can get someone to fill out the black latex as well as Michelle Pfeiffer did (ahem, below), and floated test photos of it around, I may reconsider the Catwoman stuff… But the Penguin? Too stupid a character for words, that one. And oh yes, don’t even think about the Riddler, too.

Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman

Despite some denials, I think they may well put Catwoman in the next film (I certainly hope they do) – with Rachel out of the picture, and Bruce more depressed and removed from humanity than ever (”Don’t make me your only hope for a normal life,” Rachel had said to him)… he needs to find someone who he can connect with on an emotional and psychological level. Catwoman would be an ideal match. Ideally, they would start as adversaries and then come to a better understanding of each other (as Catwoman later become a sort of Robin Hood type, noble outlaw)… I’m thinking Kate Beckinsale.

I suppose there is always Talia al Ghul is a possibility.

The Riddler… I would only want to see if it was done properly. It would take a very masterful performance for me to be happy with The Riddler as a choice for the next Batman villain. Perhaps if he wrote his riddles in the blood of slain victims… He needs to be extremely disturbing and creepy… otherwise, it’s just going to be cheesy and gimmicky. If they finally come to their senses and allow Nolan to make an “R” rated Batman, I could get exicted about the Riddler.

It had just occurred to me – just like Batman inspired vigilantes to dress up and fight crime, what if the Joker inspired madmen to let themselves run rampant and express themselves, using death and destruction as their medium and Gotham as their canvas? Perhaps The Mad Hatter could emerge, at first as a sort of “Joker copycat”, but slowly developing his own unique style…

Failing those, I’d like to see Bane done properly.

I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING NEW GIVE NEW VILLAINS A CHANCE TO BE IN THE MOVIES I MEAN ITS JUST THE SAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN BORING!!!

I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE HARLEY QUINN AND POISON IVY!!

I THINK THAT WOULD BE AN AWSOME MOVIE!
I MEAN POSION IVY WITH HER OH SO DEADLY KISS AND THAT SENT THAT IS OH SO INTOXICATING!!
AND THEN WE HAVE HARLEY QUINN WHO IS FOREVER DEVOTED TO THE CLOWN PRINCE OF CRIME..

AND HARLEY QUINN WHO HAS YET TO BE FEATURED IN ANY BATMAN MOVIE NEEDS TO BE IN A MOVIE BUT I DO ADMITT THAT FINDING AN ACTRESS TO PLAY HER AND PULL IT OFF WILL BE DIFFICULT BUT IF THEY FIND THE RIGHT PERSON THAT WOULD BE THE BEST BATMAN MOVIE WLL THAT IS MY OPINION!!

AND THE FACT THAT SHE WENT INSANE FOR THE CLOWN PRINCE OF CRIME!
LIKE EVERYONE KNOWS SHE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE JOKERS “PSYCHOLOGIST”!

AND THEN POISON IVY WHO HAS SEXUAL APPEAL ON HER SIDE.
BUT WITH ONE KISS COULD KILL YOU
I MEAN YEA SHE DID COME OUT IN ANOTHER MOVIE AND IT WAS GOOD BUT I THINK IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER BUT THATS MY OPINION…
    BUT THATS MY IDEA N I LIKE IT {{DUH}}

FIRST OFF LET ME SAY THAT I AM A BIG FAN OF CATWOMAN AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE HER IN ANOTHER BATMAN MOVIE (NOT AS A MAINE CHARACTER BUT JUST TO BE MENTIONED IN THE THIRD MOVIE, SOMETHING LIKE THE POLICE ARE TRYING TO TRACK A CAT BURGULAR AND GORDON MENTIONS SOMETHING ABOUT IT TO BATMAN (SOMETHING LIKE HES VENTING ABOUT THE MAIN PROBLEM IN THE MOVIE AND AS AN AFTER THOUGHT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT SOME THIEF DRESSED UP LIKE A CAT)OR ALFRED SEE SOMETHING ABOUT IT IN THE NEWS PAPER AND MAKES A COMMENT ABOUT IT, SOMETHING LIKE HOW BATMAN HAS STARTED A COSTUME FAD). JUST THAT WOULD MAKE ME LOVE THE THIRD MOVIE. CATWOMAN DOESN’T EVEN HAVE TO BE IN THE MOVIE JUST MENTIONED IN SOME WAY (AND IF THEY HAPPEN TO MAKE A FOURTH MOVIE LET HER BE IN IT, NOT AS THE MAIN VILLAIN BUT AS A SIDE TYPE OF THING LIKE BRUCE WAYNE MEETS SELINA KYLE MAYBE SHE WORKS AT WAYNE ENTERPRISES BRUCE IS INTERESTED IN HER SOMETHING LIKE THAT
(JUST FOR HER TO BE MENTIONED). BUT HARLEY QUINN SHOULD/HAS TO BE IN THE THIRD BATMAN MOVIE ESPICALY IF THE JOKER IS GOING TO BE IN IT. NO MATER WHAT VILLAINS THEY USE THEIR SHOULD BE A STRONG FEMALE ROLL PLAYED BY SOMEONE, OTHERWISE I THINK SOME FEMALE FANS MIGHT NOT BE AS THRILLED BY IT(NOT SAYING THEY WOULDN’T LIKE IT, JUST SAYING THEY MIGHT NOT CONNECT AS WELL TO THE MOVIE AS THE GUYS WILL. I KNOW THAT I TEND TO LIKE MOVIES BETTER WERE A GIRL KICKS A LITTLE ASS.)

I’m glad that their not using the Penguin or Catwoman… Let’s be honest, Batman Returns was a pretty damn good movie, and who else is going to play the Penguin & Catwoman besides Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer…

Give me Two-Face and Clayface, those characters are so dark and tragic they would perfect together… not to mention that both names end in ‘face’… priceless

or throw in Hush, that would definetly be different

The best explanation for having Catwoman in the next movie. I couldnt say it better myself. Taken from another blog:

“I believe that catwoman will be in the next batman. It makes perfect sense… Nolan will want a strong female character in the film. If you’ve seen the dark knight, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
In the comics, catwoman’s origins started as an abused girl and Frank Miller even portrayed her as a prostitute. I believe that this would fit in well with Nolan’s formula for the batman films. Have her as an abused girl or prostitute who was abused by one of gotham’s criminals or one of the mafia guys. When she become’s catwoman, she is focused on riding gotham of these types of criminals. In the comics, catwoman was sometimes written as a heroine rather than villain and what’s interesting with catwoman is that she follows her own moral code similar to how batman does as well. However, her version of vigilante justice is more extreme than batman’s. Where he does not believing in killing any villain, catwoman believes that this is the only type of justice these criminals deserve. This would serve as the context of the conflict between batman and catwoman.
I also believe that the next batman film will have a strong focus on the character of Bruce Wayne, the man behind the mask. Batman Begins saw Bruce Wayne construct himself into the batman, The Dark Knight focused heavily on the batman, I believe the next film will see Nolan deconstruct batman back down and focus a lot on Bruce. Nolan gave us a glimpse of this in the Dark Knight as he portrayed a Bruce Wayne as someone who was starting to question the purpose and role of masked hero in gotham. Catwoman’s true identity as Selina Kyle would be a perfect fit in the movie to serve as Bruce Wayne’s love interest.
Keeping with the focus on Bruce Wayne, I also believe that the next movie will see Batman face the challenge of trying to protect his real identity as Bruce. Again, the Dark Knight showed us a glimpse of this plot.
If this is the case, I believe the second villain in the next movie will be the Black Mask. He would also fit very well in with Nolan’s formula for villains, dark and gritty. Black Mask would introduce an refreshing and interesting take to the movies. Unlike the other villains who have a vendetta against batman, in the comics, black mask was focused on destroying bruce wayne. This would open up the next film alot since not only will we see batman battle for his life but bruce as well. In the comics, catwoman stole money from the black mask and the two did battle. The next film could also portray catwoman discovering that black mask was the one responsible for ruining the life of Selina Kyle and ultimately giving birth to catwoman.
This would serve as the focus of the battles between batman and the two villains. Batman faces his greatest challege yet as he battles a villain who is serving her own brand of vigilante justice and a gotham crime boss who threatens the live’s of the city’s people and that of Bruce wayne.”

I personally think Eva Green would be a good casting choice for this

hmm I read the posts and this is what ive come up with: at the end of dark knight gordon makes clear that the police will go after batman so I can see manbat. and also I can see harley emerging because of the joker in dark knight but also when batman gets his new armor he asks if it can stand up to dogs.. and the reply is yes “and evern cats” hint hint to catwoman, so one of those two ladies will probably be in it. but the one i would want to see is the riddler – lets tests batmans smarts in the next movie a little bit. all in all I think that the director can pull off 3 villians in the third movie.. after that though i think a trilogy is enough.

  • j says:

jonny depp may be the joker if(which will most likley happen) the character returns. now i like the riddler but it would be hard to find a darker riddler. I think jim carrey actually has potential for the role again. but the penquin would suck it was to dumb of a role. he was to much like a real penguin why was he gray and sad. They should make a penquin with the ambition to kill batman not rule gotham

    • Sin says:

i really don’t think depp would make at all a good joker, but probably a better riddler. i think they should just leave the joker alown for now. Heath really just tore the role apart! i doubt they would be able to find a better actor for the joker. if they would introduse a mad-hatter Crispin Glover would make an awsome mad-hatter! and if they casted a clay-face ron perlman would do a very good job or John Rhys-Davies (gimli from LoR).

  • Ily says:

I think the Joker is done with. It’d be a slap in face for them to recast the Joker. You cannot match Heath’s devotion and deep dedication to the Joker so easily, and to try and do so would be nothing short of rude.

I don’t believe any “sidekick” type characters should be introduced into Nolan’s Batman movies. They don’t fit. The Dark Knight’s Joker has no use for Harley Quinn.

If anything, I’d love to see the Riddler. A lot of people believe he’s closely related to the Joker, personality wise; however, the Joker in Nolan’s film is so dark that it allows for a character like the Riddler to make an appearance and be completely different. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • Sin says:

Clay-face, two-face, and the mad hatter would make perfect villan choises in the next one. clay-face was the only villan the batman really couldn’t defeat and i would love to see how they would CG him.
