No Joke: Nicolas Winding Refn Wants to Make a Wonder Woman Movie

Let’s face it, when you hear someone like Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn’s name linked to a comic book property like “Wonder Man”, you’re probably scoffing. What, the guy who directed the “Pusher” trilogy, the bloody “Bronson”, and “Valhalla Rising” is going to direct a comic book movie about a chick that deflects bullets with her bracelets while wearing a tiara? As it turns out, hell yeah, Nicolas Winding Refn really wants to direct a “Wonder Woman” movie. Who would have thunk it?

Refn tells Movieline as much:

“Wonder Woman, I really want to make. That, I’m hoping, will be my $200 million extravaganza — if I even get close to it. That’s why I say, “Well, let me go make Drive [a thriller shooting soon with Ryan Gosling]. Let me start the ball rolling within the system.”

He goes on to talk about what he would like to do with the character, his ideas and themes that he would implement — basically, a Godlike woman with Godlike powers, in the world of weak mortal men — hijinx ensue!.

The bottom line is, he’s really thought this out, and he sounds entirely serious when he says he wants to make a $200 million dollar Hollywood movie.

It’ll have to wait, though, until Refn finishes up the thriller “Drive” for Universal. The film, Refn’s first foray into Hollywood moviemaking, will be based on the novel by James Sallis and star Ryan Gosling. The film was originally set to star car lover Hugh Jackman with Neil Marshall behind the wheels.

there is only one director i wanna see make a wonder woman movie and thats micheal Bay i would settle for peter berg also — as for the star – the girl from bitch slap / SURA from spartacus is the purest choice — beauty and brawn – or go unknown and pull a WWE diva

As serious take would be great. I do believe he said he wouldn't want it as violent as the animated flick but I think in the flashback scene it was necesarry to show the brutality of that battle, but in the modern day decapitations aren't necesarry.

As for Miss Cummings, she sure looks the part, but is she tall enough. WW has to be 5'10″-6' at least. She an Amazon. The thing that upset me about Halle Berry being cast as storm was she's tiny and Storm stands above the group except for Colossus and Cyclops. Making a short Wonder Woman would be worse than a Short Red Sonja.
