Yeah, look, I don’t consider myself the biggest “Hellraiser” fan or anything, even though I’ve seen pretty much every single installment in the franchise. Even the original movies weren’t exactly scary to me; they were interesting, but that’s about it. Not exactly the type of stuff that would make me dress up in pleather and stick pins in my face and walk around convention halls. The later movies pretty much went straight for the gore, and around the time of the direct-to-DVD sequels, Doug Bradley as Pinhead and his Cenobite brood only showed up towards the end to remind you that you were watching a “Hellraiser” movie and not just some random direct-to-DVD horror flick.
Having said that — egads. What the hell is going on here? Take a look at the first trailer for “Hellraiser: Revelations”, and I think you’ll agree with me — it’s time to reboot this sucker.
Two friends in Mexico discover the Lament Configuration and unleash Pinhead, but one decides to try to survive by swapping himself with someone else. Once they go missing, family members go in search of them, but find Pinhead instead.
Starring Stephan Smith Collins as the new, apparently chubby Pinhead (dude’s got a really fat looking face), along with torture victims Steven Brand, Daniel Buran, Jolene Anderson, Nick Eversman, Stephen Smith Collins and Jay Gillespie. Victor Garcia does the honors behind the camera.
Bloody-Disgusting says the film will get a limited theatrical run on September 2nd, but will be available on VOD starting September 1st before hitting DVD October 18th. No word on a Blu-ray release, though, which is probably just as well. I think Blu-ray would only end up making this thing look even shittier.
