Apparently horror author/filmmaker Clive Barker’s reaction (via STYD) to the recently released trailer for Dimension Films’ (mostly) direct-to-DVD sequel “Hellraiser: Revelations” was not very kind. The author, who created the “Hellraiser” franchise in short story form before it became a movie and then a hit franchise, recently tweeted this in regards to “Revelations”:
Hello, my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser is no fuckin’ child of mine. I have nothing to do with the fuckin’ thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker,it’s a lie. It’s not even from my butt-hole.
As I hear it, “Revelations” looks and feels cheap precisely because it is cheap. The entire purpose of the sequel, apparently, was so Dimension Films can put something with the “Hellraiser” moniker out on the market for the studio to hold onto the “Hellraiser” rights, and pave the way for the more expensive and (we presume) less embarrassing remake that is already in the works.
In case you haven’t seen the trailer for “Hellraiser: Revelations”, take a gander at it below. Yup, I do believe ol Clive’s on the right track about it. The film gets a limited theatrical run September 1st, which, I suspect, is another contractual obligation, before arriving on DVD and VOD where the studio could probably care less if it recoups is costs or not.
