Official: Ben Affleck is Your New Batman in Zack Snyder’s Superman/Batman Movie

It’s not Jon Hamm, or Jeffrey Dean Morgan, or the 50 other actors that 50 other sites have claimed unnamed sources as telling them has either landed, is being considered, or is director Zack Snyder’s top choice to play Batman in Warner Bros.’ upcoming (and as yet, still untitled) Superman/Batman team-up movie.

It’s Ben Affleck.

Ben AffleckThe award-winning star and director of “Argo”, “The Town”, and the man who previously played a Marvel superhero, will be suiting up in the cape and cowl as a grizzled, veteran Batman in Snyder’s upcoming “Man of Steel” follow-up. Warner Bros. made the official announcement themselves via a press release, which, let’s face it, must be some kind of a first. Usually a fansite or one of the trades will break the news first.

Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.” The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Henry Cavill will return as Superman, along with “Man of Steel’s” Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

The idea is for Snyder, along with writer David Goyer, to “create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together.”

I gotta say, it’s a hell of a casting coup. Personally, I didn’t think Affleck would ever willingly give up so much creative control on a movie again, especially after winning wide acclaim and box office success as an actor and director for “The Town” and “Argo”. It looks like Warner Bros. has been after him for a while now. As you’ll recall, he was previously rumored to be playing Batman in a “Justice League” movie, and at one point was even rumored to be directing said “Justice League” movie.

But instead, he’ll play Batman in a Zack Snyder movie. Who knows, maybe he’ll end up actually directing that “Justice League” movie after all when he reprises the role?

Ben Affleck as Batman will battle (then probably team up with) Henry Cavill as Superman in the untitled comic book film, currently set for July 17, 2015, with production kicking off in 2014. Which means, yes, kids, that’s a “Batman/Superman” movie and “The Avengers 2″ in the same summer. How lucky are you, comic book geeks and geekettes?

      WW isn’t in this movie.

I’m not immediately on board with this but there are plenty of worse choices. But here’s my two cents.
As much as people are hating on this choice, you can’t lie the man has brought his A game lately. I’m actually shocked he took this role. As like Nix said he’s only done stuff he has a major hand in creating lately. Affleck wasn’t bad as Daredevil in the move, not bad at all actually. The Director’s cut is actually pretty good. I think we’ll have to hold judgment until one, we see him in the suit, two we hear the voice and see him in action. Until then Haters Gonna Hate but all I have to say is what my friend Virg and I say when we’re having trouble looking outside the box, “Brokeback Mountain!” in reference to Heath Ledger being chosen as the Joker and initial fan reaction. “Brokeback Mountain!”

Your right.. It can be worst.. After Avenger kill any last hope of a Justice league movie… who else can they choose from?? Marvel got about 70% of all of Hollywood top and popular teen actor.. Dc is barely managing to even put up a decent show.. we all remember Green Lantern right>>>. Let hope for the best,, maybe Ben wouldnt even show his face, and be in the Batman cowl all movie long.. could happen..hope it happen… i HAte his Face.. i kid i kid.. seriously
      think about it.

  • Dedpool

I will be rewatching Daredevil this weekend now…

In all seriousness, I wonder if Affleck will be involved creatively also…. to that, I actually encourage the idea. The man knows his sh*t when it comes to being behind the camera. On the other hand, I have no issues with him as Batman…it’s the Bruce Wayne half that I’m having trouble imagining…. but here we go anyways.

    • Dedpool

He’d do decent for the Batman films but don’t know if he can star and direct in one of those.

      • a.k.a. Nate

On the contrary, I think Affleck is diverse enough to direct a Batman film well… acting is a whole other story…I’m optimistic though… now what might the new suit and bat-gear look like? Hmm?

        • Dedpool

I’m just saying ti takes a lot out of you doing both. Stallone didn’t direct E2 because of that, and I think many others who’ve worn both hats have said similar.
As for the suit all I can say is give me the Arkham series suit or something like it. Hell the one from the upcoming Arkham Origins would rock!!

          • a.k.a. Nate

No doubt about that…but Affleck’s talent for creativity is what I hope gets applied to this project.

      • M@rvel

Remember that rumor a while back that Ben Affleck was supposedly going to direct and star in the Justice League film? maybe that rumor wasn’t a rumor after all….. This could be the set up for something bigger for Affleck. It actually makes sense when you think about it.

I’m sorry, I love Ben Affleck, but he’s is really wrong for this movie. I was already suspect of this movie, but now it’s looking like it’s going to be a big failure. Does anyone remember daredevil?

    • a.k.a. Nate

      Daredevil? …no do tell

      • Eric

You should see the Daredevil movie Ben Affleck was in about 5 or 6 years ago. He played daredevil and the movie wasn’t really that great. He’s good a playing himself, or someone like him, but he’s not like batman or Bruce Wayne and should bow out.

        • a.k.a. Nate

Lol…I know. I’m just kidding. The movie was dog sh*t. I think Affleck is able to make it up to is though. I’m gonna support this casting decision until I see proof of it’s crappy-ness.

        • Dedpool

10 years ago. It was 2003

    • JasOn Vu

      i remember DAREDEVILL

  • a.k.a. Nate

The movie’s still gonna be cool…even if we gotta suspend belief on the whole Bruce Wayne thing.

  • Lexavi80

I like the casting choice, although Nix make a very good case about Affleck giving creative control on a movie again.

I think he made a hidden deal for that. Maybe JLA direction in 2017, or direction for the new Batman franchise? We’ll see.

Anyway, I’m down with this, and I hope Ben Affleck shut the haters up like Heath Ledger did it back in The Dark Knight.

  • asshole

wtf Ben Affleck batman? this movie will be flop for sure ZzZzZz

  • wmb

It doesn’t matter who they would have chosen, because somebody would have been up in arms about it. Ultimately, what it will come down to is story and whether it is good or not! Personally I think they should do an apatation of the WB’s 90 minute Superman/Batman cartoon when they met for the first time. Introduce Lex, an appropriate Batman villain, and lead into the future JLA movie (be it through other JLA cast members or the actual villan[s]). Whoever they get to play whatever role will not matter if the story isn’t together.

    • Dedpool

That was actually a very good movie/episodes. I own that. It wouldn’t be a bad basis for an adaptation.

  • JasOn Vu

their no Pros,, their only fucken Con.. Ben addleck couldn’t even pull off DAREDEVIL.. what make you think he can Do BATMAM???

    • yaweeeh

because in fact, he is doing it right now, look the photos.
