Official Logo for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim

Legendary Pictures has released the official logo for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming sci-fi monsters versus dudes in mechas actioner “Pacific Rim”. Del Toro has been talking the film up something epic over at Comic Con, so here’s hoping the film at least lives up to some of those grand talk. Del Toro will direct from a script by Travis Beacham (“Clash of the Titans”).

When an alien attack threatens the Earth’s existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.

The movie stars Charlie Hunnam of “Sons of Anarchy” fame, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi.

Del toro has been hit and miss for me. Certainly, he is an auteur and always giving a 100% effort into his movies. They never feel like his movies are just a paycheck, but more often then not, his movies just don’t quite work, at least for me.

He’s one step away from reaching his full potential as a director and moving him up to the spielberg, jackson echelon. Hopefully this movie is the one that does it for him.

I like Del Toro, but he has a comfort zone that he rarely ventures past. You almost always know what you’re going to get out of him, which means you’re either a fan of what he brings, or you are not.

I know what you mean. I’m hoping this is the movie that let’s him transcend that and move beyond what he’s established for himself.

The premise sounds really cool. I hope he ventures past the “Del Toro” limits for this one.
