Adorable indie sweetheart Olivia Thirlby is most known for playing Ellen Page’s sidekick in “Juno”, where she said lots of obnoxious things like “honest to blog?” It turns out that the 23 year-old actress is on a bit of a sci-fi kick. Not only is she shooting the sci-fi action film “The Darkest Hour”, about a bunch of kids in Moscow trying to survive an alien invasion, but now she has been cast in the 3D adaptation of “Judge Dredd”.
Karl Urban will play the title role, while Thirlby will play Judge Cassandra Anderson, a telepathic rookie who can sense impending danger and foresee the future. In comics Anderson began as a sidekick, but eventually got her own series.
DNA Films is producing the futuristic movie, which has a $45 million budget, and will begin shooting in South Africa later this year. You may remember the 1995 version of “Judge Dredd” with Sylvester Stallone. Then again, you may be trying to forget it. I like the idea of Thirlby as a sidekick much better than Rob Schneider. She’s much prettier.
