THR’s Heat Vision has a rundown of the lovely female lasses currently trying to nab the cushy job of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man’s new love interest in Marc Webb’s upcoming reboot of the arachnid crimefighter’s exploits. The film will be set in high school, and is supposedly a more realistic take on the superhero. Well, at least as “realistic” as you can get with a 28-year old playing a high school teenager, anyway.
And get this: whoever ends up playing opposite new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield? They won’t be playing Mary Jane Watson. Nope. Instead, nerdy Peter Parker’s new love interest for his new franchise will either be Gwen Stacy (last played by Bryce Dallas Howard in “Spider-Man 3”) or a new character entirely.
And the ladies are..
Imogen Poots: You may remember her as the teenage zombie fodder from “28 Weeks Later”. She’s now all grown up and starring in adult movies, including the horror/comedy remake “Fright Night”, and before that, “Centurion”.
Ophelia Lovibond: Brit. Never heard of her. Great surname, though. Ophelia. Ophelia Lovibond. Etc.
Lily Collins: She was the daughter in “The Blind Side” with Sandra Bullock, and has “Priest” with Paul Bettany coming up.
Teresa Palmer: Aussie. She was old man Jay Baruchel’s love interest in “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and has the Michael Bay-produced “I am Number Four” coming up next.
Emma Roberts: Former child star currently leading the new crop of Ghostface victims in the new “Scream” trilogy. She’s apparently already read twice for the Spidey gig, which would seem to indicate she may be the frontrunner.
Also, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’s” Mary Elizabeth Winstead has apparently already read with Garfield, but is said to be out of the running. Too bad, because she would have been my top choice. Then again, Mary Elizabeth Winstead would have been my top choice for just about anything, so maybe I’m a little biased. Basically, she’s so gosh darn cute, she can do whatever the hell she wants. I mean, just look at that face…
