Hard to believe that Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is almost upon us. Wasn’t it just last year that we got “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”? Oh right, it WAS last year. Check out the very first trailer for the second part in Jackson’s new Middle Earth trilogy, which finds Bilbo and his company of dwarfs in even more trouble. Fortunately for them, Orlando Bloom’s Legolas is there to lend a hand (and an arrow or a dozen), though he seems very hesitant in this one.

We also get our first looks at Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman and Evangeline Lilly as the spitfire Elf Tauriel.

The Dwarfs, Bilbo and Gandalf have successfully escaped the misty mountains, but BIlbo has gained the one ring. They all continue their journey to get their gold back off the Dragon, Smaug.

Starring Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lee Pace, Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Billy Connolly, Evangeline Lilly, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Christopher Lee, and Aidan Turner.

The journey continues this December 13, 2013.

So cannot wait!! I didn’t think they’d give us Smaug in this, but they gave us just enough. My daughter is going to lose her mind!

Of course Smaug is going to be here. The final film will be the battle of the five armies.

No I meant in the trailer. I know this film is all bout Smaug!

I’ll watch it for sure, but I must say I hate the fact that Peter Jackson is using so much CGI now.

I mean, CGI elves? Battles with CGI orcs?

One thing that made Lor of the Rings great was that the battles felt so organic because real people were in it.

I have a theory on that. At least with the Orcs. I didn’t see the CGI Elves. But my theory is that they used CGI for the Orcs so that they could speak their own language. All the orcs in LoTR spoke english. With the prosthetics and false teeth in, they would’ve butchered the language, or their tongues, or both, and it would’ve looked very bad when they were speaking. At least it’s all performance driven. Manu Bennet doesn’t just voice Azog he IS Azog!

Did I just watch a trailer for a Hobbit video game?………….

Can’t wait it looks awesome one of my favorite books as a child. The CGI is very good so it doesn’t distract me at all.
