Organ Harvesters Unite!

Written by Robert | June 18th, 2007 | 0 Comments |

A coincidence. Is there such a thing? In Hollywood, one can only assume not. A report from the grue-lovers over at Bloody-Disgusting casts a wall of fog on the debate if three-time Saw series helmer Darren Lynn Bousman’s upcoming celebration of organ snatching and hardcore rock rifts is really as original and innovative as it seems.

The Repossession Mambo, set up at Universal with heavyweights Jude Law and Forest Whitaker attached, is a “morality tale…set in the near future, when artificial organs can be bought on credit, with the understanding that defaulting on payment will result in a fatal repossession.” Compare that with Bousman’s Repo! The Genetic Opera — a genre-hybrid musical set around characters living in a seemingly related society founded upon organ harvesting — and there’s no denying that the similarities are there…

Or are they?! One seems to be geared towards the elite, Oscar-welcoming crowd (Cedric Gibbon’s statue is oh so pretty), while the other is undoubtably going to be catered to us folks who like our movies bloody, ear-shatteringly loud and over-the-top crazy (exploitation, rock and exposed viscera could very well be Life’s most precious combination). Apples and oranges, they seem to me. And we can only hope they put that golden concept to good use. The screen is big enough for the both of them!

Check out Bousman’s MySpace page for his reaction.
