We don’t know who is in it or what it’s about, but we do know it’s spooky and shot on grainy video and apparently takes place immediately after the first movie. We also know who is directing it, and that’s Tod Williams. That’s pretty much it. Like the first movie, the cast are a bunch of unknowns, and the storyline is a lot of set-up with one major payoff at the end, and it’ll all depend entirely on people who have seen the movie not spoiling it for everyone else.
It’ll be interesting to see if the film can recapture the same level of success as the first movie, which was made for a song and a dance and ended up making enough money to feed a small African nation. If I had to guess, I will say it’ll do pretty decent business in the first week, but will quickly peter out. The studio, though, will push on ahead with a “Paranormal Activity 3” anyway, but by then only the hardcore fans of the first movie will be around to still pay money to see it.
The first trailer for the sequel premiered in front of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”, and it’s now premiered online over at the official site.
Arriving in dark theaters everywhere October 22, 2010.
