Paul Thomas Anderson is NOT Directing Metal Gear Solid

Seriously? Someone actually thought this nutty rumor had an inkling of truth in it? Paul Thomas Anderson (pictured, left)? Of “Boogie Nights” and “There Will be Blood” fame? Oh come on! A few days ago, this rumor popped up online, and I read it everywhere, but I didn’t post it here, because the entire premise just sounded absurd. Not the premise of a “Metal Gear Solid” movie, mind you, but of PTA actually “interested” in directing it. Um, no, not gonna happen, and now we have a sort of confirmation that it was all lies. Lies, I tell you!

Anyway, whatever Konami’s Aki Saito meant to say is irrelevant, as I’ve emailed producer Mike De Luca and he said the rumor about Paul Thomas Anderson is “completely false and ridiculous.” If you didn’t know, Mike is producing the movie and you can read a lot of his thoughts on the film here.

But you know, if PTA did want to direct a wacky action movie based on a videogame, it would be kind of cool. Never gonna happen, of course, but still kinda cool to think about it…
