Talk about a sure thing. No, not Penelope Cruz, I’m sure she’s a lady and all that. I’m talking about the non-existent risk for the actress that gets cast for a movie like “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, the fourth installment of the ever popular Disney series, aka the franchise that Jack Sparrow built. THR reports that Cruz is currently in negotiations to join “Stranger Tides” as the film’s female lead, and will play a character described as Jack Sparrow’s “foil and equal in many ways”.
Disney hasn’t officially released a plot synopsis for “On Stranger Tides” yet, but it’s been known for some time now that the script by series writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot will have returning star Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow going in search of the Fountain of Youth. Rob Marshall, who last directed Cruz in the entirely ignored musical “Nine”, is scheduled to direct the fourth entry, taking over for Gore Verbinski, who had directed the previous three installments.
Shooting is set to sail in Hawaii this summer for a May 20, 2011 release. That is, if all goes well, and Depp actually returns.
