Phillip Noyce Tosses Salt for Blood
Once upon a time, Phillip Noyce (”Dead Calm”) was supposed to direct The Cruiser in the problematic “Edwin A. Salt”, but that seems to have gone by the wayside. Now it appears as if Phillip Noyce will be trying his hand at seafaring adventures in a remake of “Captain Blood”, to which he has signed on to develop and direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Noyce becomes the fourth notable to take a stab at the project, following in the failed footsteps of Jonathan Hensleigh, Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont.
THR has more the original:
The Academy Award-nominated pirate movie starred Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland and Basil Rathbone and was based on a novel by Rafael Sabatini. Set in the 1600s, it tells the story of a doctor who is convicted for treason against the King of England, sold into slavery and escapes to high seas as a pirate. (The book also was adapted in 1924 by the Vitagraph Co.)
Now all they need is one of those pesky writers…
