Another month, another movie with Pierre Morel attached in some capacity, this time as producer. But this one is a little different — it’s already being sold at Cannes, so I suppose that means it’s further along then all the other films Morel has been attached to since “Taken” blew up at the box office much to everyone’s surprise. (Honestly, that movie had more to do with Liam Neeson playing a badass and not so much the direction by Morel, but whatever.) Unless, of course, I’m taking this “being sold at Cannes” thing way more seriously than it deserves, which is entirely possible.
Morel’s latest attachment is the car actioner “Overdrive”, which is already set to star “I am Number Four” pretty boy Alex Pettyfer and “Watchmen’s” equally pretty boy Matthew Goode (Ozymandias himself). Both lads, (mostly) sans shirt, below for your viewing pleasure, ladies. (And, er, some of you guys out there.)
The $30-million dollar-ish film will star Pettyfer and Goode as “a pair of handsome and adventurous brothers, known for being high-profile car thieves, who travel to the South of France looking for new challenges and come across a tough local crime boss.” And shirtless. Don’t forget they’re liable to go shirtless at least once, ladies.
One of the film’s reps, Gregoire Melin, calls “Overdrive” “an action flick with brains and a great dose of humor, mixing elements of ‘Point Break’ and ‘The Hangover’.” Wow. “Point Break” and “The Hangover”? That’s a first.
Morel is producing only, with Antonio Negret directing from a script by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, the duo behind “Wanted” and “3:10 to Yuma”. It certainly sounds like it has potential to be a solid action movie.
