Well, ready or not, it’s coming in a movie adaptation of French writer Jean-Patrick Manchette’s “The Prone Gunman”.
The film, titled “Prone Gunman” (no “the” for you!), will star Penn as Martin Terrier, a “hired killer who wants out of the game — so he can settle down and marry his childhood sweetheart”, only the organization he works for has other plans, and soon Terrier is running for his life from the people he used to kill for.
Don’t you hate it when that happens? Sheesh. I remember when murderous criminal organizations would just accept your resignation and give you a gold watch and wish you good luck. Not anymore, though.
Silver Pictures and Studio Canal have hired Pierre Morel to direct Penn in the action film, hoping he can do for the notoriously moody actor what he did for Liam Neeson in “Taken” — turn him into a likeable international action star. It’s kind of asking a lot from Morel, but I guess that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.
Penn has some experience with guns. He did recently play a killer gangster in Ruben Fleischer’s “Gangster Squad”, so it’s not like he’s new to the “killing for a buck” game.
In any case, “Prone Gunman” is set to shoot as early as this Spring on location across Europe.
