Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Gets a Strange Title. Plus, Tides.

For those of you dying to know what the new title of the “Pirates 4” movie is, you don’t have to wait any longer. According to HitFix, Disney revealed the title at the D23 Expo: “On Stranger Tides”. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” to be exact. And as you can see from the title treatment below, the film is due out in the Summer of 2011.

As previously reported, “Chicago” director Rob Marshall will be stepping behind the camera for the fourth “Pirates” movie, replacing Gore Verbinski, who had previously left the project to pursue other ventures. Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow, and according to rumors, the plot has Jack pursuing the mythical Fountain of Youth and facing steampunk-powered villains.

Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, the other two stars from the previous three films, will be no-shows. This will be entirely Jack Sparrow’s adventures.

According to the LATimes, Jack Sparrow himself showed up at the D23 Expo in full costume, but the newspaper calls the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: In Strange Waters”. As you can see from the title treatment below, it says “On Stranger Tides”. Weird.
