Before “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” sails into theaters next May, it has to have a trailer, right? Isn’t that the way it’s done? In that spirit Disney announced that the first official trailer for the fourth installment of their “Pirates” franchise (seriously, before the first one came out, who expected there to be four of these?) will be released at 1 PM Pacific Standard Time on Monday, December 13th. Later that week it will accompany “Tron: Legacy” into theaters.
Are we really at the point where studios are manufacturing hype about the release date for trailers? Apparently.
Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love – or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
Written by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio (who both worked on the previous installments), the cast of “On Stranger Tides” also includes series vets Geoffrey Rush reprising his role as Captain Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally returning as Gibbs. Not appearing are other series stalwarts Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
