Wait, didn’t the original “Poltergeist” launch a curse on the cast and crew or something? Eh, who cares about that nonsense — they’re remaking it! Yup. For all you MTV generation horror fans who can’t be bothered to watch the originals from — gulp! — 20 years ago, you’ll get a fresh view of the franchise from director Vadim Perelman, who is currently in negotiations to direct the remake, says The Hollywood Reporter.
And get this — THR actually cites horror movie site Bloody-Disgusting in their article! Holy shit. That’s the even BIGGER news then someone directing a “Poltergeist” remake. This may quite possibly be the first time a honest to goodness newspaper (you know, with people who get paid to write this stuff and such) has — double gulp! — given credit to us lowly movie sites as the original source!
Wow, I am speechless. Are we looking at a seminal event in online-offline movie news reporting here? Gosh, one wonders…
Anyways, here’s THR:
Vadim Perelman is in negotiations to develop MGM’s “Poltergeist” remake as a potential directing gig. The deal would bring the helmer together with writers Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, who were hired last week to revamp the 1982 classic.
The original, a haunted-house movie full of literalized children’s nightmares, was directed by Tobe Hooper from a script co-written by Steven Spielberg. The film’s exploration of an ordinary family’s reaction to an extraordinarily intense situation likely appealed to Perelman, who delved into similar dynamics in his debut, 2003’s “House of Sand and Fog,” and last year’s “The Life Before Her Eyes.”
So what have we learn here, kids?
One: they’re definitely remaking “Poltergeist”, and they don’t plan on putting some noob from the world of MTV music videos or car commercials on it, either; they’re going pretty hardcore with an actual movie director. Which, if you’re a fan of the franchise, is pretty good news. I think.
Two: Congrats to Bloody-Disgusting for getting the “big boys” to finally bow down to their awesomeness in horror movie news reporting!
