A few days ago the first poster for director Jake Schreier’s independent sci-fi buddy comedy “Robot and Frank” appeared. Today they’re back with the first trailer for the film. Frank (Frank Langella) is a retired cat burglar. In his twilight years his aim has shifted from boosting jewels to winning the heart of local librarian Jennifer (Susan Sarandon).
At times sounds like an age versus youth kind of story, with Frank and Jennifer versus the younger crowd trying to replace them. But “Robot and Frank” is also the story of an unlikely friendship between two “people” on opposite ends of the spectrum, between Frank and a robot voiced by Peter Sarsgaard.
Set in the near future, Frank (Frank Langella) a retired jewel thief gets a new lease on life when he is introduced to a surprising new companion. With the help of his new friend, he attempts to woo a local librarian (Susan Sarandon) and resume his criminal escapades. “Robot and Frank” is directed by first time filmmaker Jake Schreier, written by Christopher Ford (TV’s “Atom TV”), and produced by Galt Niederhoffer, Sam Bisbee, Jackie Kelman Bisbee and Lance Acord.
“Robot and Frank” has made the film festival rounds this year, and finally opens on August 24th.
