I know what you’re thinking: “Man, I bet ‘The Phantom Menace’ is actually a great movie — if only it was in 3D!” Well, looks like you’re going to get to prove that theory when George Lucas
robs you of more of your hard-earned fanboy money generously re-releases Episode 1 back into theaters on February 10th, 2012 — this time in 3D!
The poster, in all its photoshoppy glory, was released a few weeks ago, and last week saw the release of the trailer in theaters. Yes, they’re nothing spectacular. It looks like whatever money George and company spent on re-working the film for its 3D release, they apparently spent all their budget and didn’t have very much for the poster and trailer releases, because, man, these sure look like they were haphazardly slapped on and put out there. Then again, George probably knows that “Star Wars” fanboys will see anything he puts out, so why make the effort to “sell” it? You don’t get any more critic-proof than the “Star Wars” franchise.
“The Phantom Menace”, besides introducing us to the wondrous creation that is Jar Jar Binks, boasts quite the impressive cast of Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Lloyd, and Terence Stamp. Okay, maybe not Lloyd, but definitely the rest of the cast is pretty damn impressive. Too bad they had to work with George’s clunky movie dialogue.
