For one reason or another, I never noticed that John Cusack was coming out with a new satirical action movie called “War Inc.” (formerly “Brand Hauser”) that looks a heck of a lot like quasi-sequel to Cusack’s 1997 “Grosse Pointe Blank”. The 1997 movie starred Cusack as a bemused hitman who goes to his high school reunion, while “War Inc” has Cusack as a hitman who goes to a Middle Eastern company. Both features similar sounding dialogue, plays it tongue-in-cheek, and features Cusack’s sister Joan Cusack as the hitman’s assistant.
Brand Hauser (formally known as War Inc.) is set in the future, when the desert country of Turagistan is torn by a riot after a private corporation, owned by the former US president, has taken over the whole state. John Cusack plays the role of a hit man, who suppresses his emotions by gobbling down on hot sauce and is hired by the corporation’s head to kill the CEO of their competitors.Everything changes when the ruthless killer finds himself head-over-heels in love with a sexy reporter.
Here’s the trailer (below). Now listen to the voiceover narration by Cusack and the whole “vibe” of the film, and if you didn’t know that this wasn’t a sequel to “Grosse Pointe Blank”, then you might think it was.
Co-starring John Cusack, Hilary Duff, Joan Cusack, Marisa Tomei, Ben Kingsley, and directed by Joshua Seftel.
For some reason “War Inc.” seems to be stuck in limbo, and there’s no release date yet.
