Preview: Wrong Turn 2: Dead End

Reality TV show as horror movie backdrop is old hat, and has been done to death (no pun intended) in the direct-to-video (or is the case nowdays, direct-to-DVD) niche. Off the top of my head, I can name “Slashers”, “Cruel World”, “Series 7: The Contenders”, “House of 9″, and “My Little Eye”. So it’s curious to see the horror sequel “Wrong Turn 2: Dead End” tread the same familiar ground. It’s like horror movie writers don’t bother watching horror movies anymore nowadays. But oh well. The original was good, and although my expectations for the sequel isn’t very high (the plot being the main problem), I’ll still give it a chance when it hits DVD.

The plot:

Dale Murphy (Henry Rollins) is hosting and producing his own reality T.V show called “The Ultimate Survivalist: The Apocalypse”, with six contestants led by Nina Papas (Erica Leerhsen), who’ll be thrown together for six days in a simulated post-apocalyptic wasteland, and the winner will walk away with $100,000. Located in a remote part of West Virginia, the contestants discover that what they are really fighting for is their survival - against a family of hideously deformed inbred cannibals who plan to ruthlessly butcher them all…

Starring Erica Leerhsen, Henry Rollins, Texas Battle, Daniella Alonso, Aleksa Palladino, Crystal Lowe, Ken Kirzinger and Kimberly Caldwell. The sequel is directed by Joe Lynch.

The direct-to-DVD release is scheduled for October 9th.
