After losing one director after another and never really latching onto a movie star to take the lead (Natalie Portman was producing, but never really committed), the film will now make do with Lily Collins, star of “Mirror Mirror” and the upcoming “The Mortal Instruments”, the latest movie based on a Young Adult book series trying to cash in on “Twilight’s” fanbase.
Collins is currently in negotiations to star in the film, a genre mash-up of zombie movies and Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”. She’ll get company in director Burr Steers (“17 Again”, “Charlie St. Cloud”), who will be making his first Zac Efron-less movie with “Zombies”.
Steers takes over after previous directors David O’Russell, Mike White and Craig Gillespie bailed.
Based on the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”), “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” follows “the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England who are faced with a new challenge — an army of undead zombies.”
Collins will play Elizabeth Bennet.
