It looks like feuding onscreen father and daughter Charles Dance and Lena Headey are heading to Jane Austen land to co-star in the “re-imagining” (to put it mildly) of Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” but with a little dose of zombie mayhem to spice things up.
Per Deadline, the “Game of Thrones” actors will be battling the undead in “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” joining previously cast star Lily James, along with Sam Riley, Bella Heathcoate, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, Matt Smith, and Suki Waterhouse.
Screen Gems seems a strong match for this literary mash-up that begins with the tangled relationship between lovers from different social classes in 19th-century England, and is complicated by a full-on outbreak of zombies. That plot embellishment escaped Austen but was added by Seth Grahame-Smith, and it probably would have propelled me to actually finish Austen’s book had she thought of it in the first place. Latest script is by Steers.
No word on what roles they’ll be playing.
The film is set to be directed by Burr Steers. I mean, you know, if this movie actually happens. I think, at one point or another, almost everyone in Hollywood has been either cast in or set to direct this movie. Curious that now the entire production seems to have moved overseas and seems to have become an all-Brit flick. (Though Steers is American, FYI.) At one point I think Natalie Portman was supposed to star in this thing.
