Prison Break Spin-Off Pops New Cherry … Hill

Written by Nix | July 15th, 2008 | 1 Comment |

The original idea for a Prison Break spin-off (to be called Prison Break: Cherry Hill) was to have a female character named Molly be introduced in the ongoing Prison Break show, then have her be transferred to a prison called Cherry Hill, where she would plot her escape. Apparently that’s now been scrapped, and the Powers That Be are more interested in a CSI-type show for their PB spin-off. Wait, a CSI-type show set in an all-women’s prison? How would that work, exactly, and would the character now trade her jumpsuit for a guard’s uniform? Personally I liked the chicks in prison idea better myself.

THR has more on the change of heart by FOX:

Executive producer Matt Olmstead and co-executive producer Zack Estrin said Monday that they’ve ditched their previous plan to introduce a female character in the regular series and then spin her off into a separate show set in a women’s prison. Instead, they’re planning an entirely new series under the “Prison Break” brand.

“We had trouble casting for it … then the strike happened,” Olmstead said during Fox’s portion of the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour. “By the time we resumed the season, we decided to scrap that idea of doing it that way. We’re in the homestretch of writing it.”

Estrin added, “This is more like a “CSI: NY” — more of a brand spinoff than a character spinoff.”

It’ll still be called Cherry Hill, though, because let’s face it, when you’ve got the idea of women in prison, adding the words “cherry” to it just sounds … right. Am I right or am I right, boys?

Nix - that’s so fucking sexist, I’m sure the FOX network did not plan on keeping the title of this show because of a man’s fantasy of females and the word “cherry.”
