Producer Promises Assloads of Ninjas, The Rock in G.I. Joe Sequel

The boys at MTV caught up with uber producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura at the New York premiere of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and tossed him some “G.I. Joe 2″ questions. According to Bonaventura, The Rock’s role as Roadblock in the movie won’t be a background/supporting character, but more along the lines of a leading character next to Snake Eyes.

He also promises fans of ninja action that there will be plenty of ninjas and ninja-related action in the sequel, set to be directed by Jon Chu of “Step Up” fame. Does this mean less comedy relief ala Marlon Wayans? One can only hope.

Besides Ray Park back as Snake Eyes and Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, the sequel will also return Channing Tatum as Duke and Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow. Other new additions will include Elodie Yung as Snake Eyes’ fellow ninja Jinx, with rapper RZA as their ninja master, and D.J. Cotrona as the shotgun-carrying Flint.

Look for the Joes to return in 2012.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt decided to stay out? That’s too bad. He always brings something to the table.

    • Nix

Yah, I figured that was a paycheck for him.

    • Juggernaut

Apparently you haven’t seen the first movie. He brought zero to the table. It wasn’t his fault that the movie sucked but he still contributed nothing more than a relatively big name to the marqui.

I’ve seen bits and pieces of the first one to see Sienna Miller in spandex. Don’t think I ever saw the entire movie. Didn’t even really notice gorden-levitt in it. I just like him as an actor. Since his name has gotten a litter bigger with Inception and 500 days of summer, thought they might bring him back. Guess not.

Sienna Miller looks hotter as a brunette! She was a perfect Baroness.

    • clarkspark

Also Cobra Commander always wore a mask in the cartoons and since the first movie ended with him gaining one I assume he didn’t want to cover his face for the camera. :p

  • Eagle Eye

Man, i really can’t wait for this film!!

  • Dedpool

Rock as Roadblock puts the movie on a better standing than the last film. Not feeling Rza as Snake Eyes and Jinx’s master. A real martial artist woulda been better. But oh well.

    • Juggernaut

I can’t even believe that they cast the Rza as The Ninja Master!!! Ugh. I love The Rock but he alone cannot make this movie good. With the returning Channing Tatum and new cast member D.J.Catrona on board there will be enough wood in there to build house. Also, a lot of ninjas doesn’t equal a good JOE flick. If they want to do it right. Cast some well known characters with decent to good actors, have the characters in their outfits from the cartoon/comics (within reason) and make it more rooted in reality and less campy.

      • Dedpool

Live action G.I.Joe Resolute! Hell they don’t have to be in the exact outfit, justh some military gear with accents that are like the cartoon. And trust me I know the Rock being in it doesn’t make it good, but it gives me more hope than most of the cast from the first film.

    Is ‘assload’ the technical term?

  • Brian

So no Scarlet or Baroness? Shameful!

  • Danmillion99

“…return Channing Tatum as Duke and Byung-hun Lee as Snake Eyes.” – You mean Storm Shadow, not Snake Eyes, Ray Park is Snake Eyes duhhh.

    • Nix

      You are correct.

  • clarkspark

Rza as a ninja master? LMAO Master of phat beats, sure, but Ninja master??? Hahahah wow Wu-Tang Clan really…I almost freaked when Rza cameo’d in Ghostdog. I could swear he who’ve made his own Ghostdog movie starring himself.
