You can’t keep them muties down, what with their healing factors, laser beams out of eyes, and TK’ing and such. During an appearance on Fox movie Channel’s Life after Film School (I haven’t a clue what that is, but apparently it’s some kind of TV show), “X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked about the plans for the new “X-Men” movie, tentatively called “X-Men: First Class” (aka “X-Men 4”), which will follow younger versions of the familiar X-Men characters we’re used to (Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Beast, etc). And what then? Maybe spin-off movies, ala Wolverine, perhaps?
Says Shuler (via Comics Continuum):
“It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun… I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.”
Of course, everything hinges on how “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” does at the box office. If moviegoers show little interest in more mutant adventures, you can probably kiss “X-Men 4” goodbye. At least until interest re-surfaces years later. These things are always cyclical that way.
As to the “X-Men Origins: Magneto” movie? Again, depend son how “Wolverine” does, but to be honest with you, are there really that many people clamoring for a Magneto movie? If you are, then the movie is still in development, though there hasn’t been movement on it in ages.
Below: It’s The OC meets X-Men, except everyone’s the “tough kid from the wrong side of the tracks”.
