Anyone else thought this movie was underwhelming? Maybe because it was over-hyped. It really had none of the suspense of the first Alien – it lacked the “space opera” that I was looking for.

Scott’s visuals and direction, as usual, was highly polished, but the plot seemed kind of thin and the entire movie felt kind of pointless. A lot of the character’s motivation did not seem plausible.

Anyway, for me, this wasn’t one of his better outings. It was doubly disappointing because it seems like pre-release hype has him being really invested in the story, production. It felt like years in the making only to produce a so-so movie.

Maybe a different “director’s cut” might make me change my mind.

Watch the deleted scene “Final Battle”
It captures the tension of the original film.
      Never should have been cut!

I will. Thanks for the heads-up. Wonder why it was cut. Was it an alternative ending or was it just cut out to bring down the running time?

The fact that they clearly made it with a sequel (or two) in mind hurt it at the end. It just didn’t feel complete at all. Like a whole lot of set-up for part 2. Someone like Ridley Scott should have known better — make the first movie the best it can be BEFORE you start thinking sequels. But he didn’t, which is why, at the end of the day, it felt incredibly unsatisfying.

That’s it. Didn’t realize that it’s going to be the first in a series. If it’s an epilogue for sequels, then it makes a bit more sense. Hope they make the rest otherwise this feels like a waste of visual real estate.
