PS3 Game Infamous Headed to Big Screen

Infamous Movie — By Nix on July 28, 2009

I’ve seen Sucker Punch Production’s “Infamous” game on store shelves, but could never convince myself to pick it up. It looks like a good enough game, with the usual stellar PS3 graphics, and the concept behind it ain’t bad, either. In the game, you play a bike messenger name Cole MacGrath, who one day survives an explosion that destroys whole city blocks. Instead of bicycling off to meet his maker, Cole develops electrical powers. (Aka the Peter Parker conceit.) The player must than decide if they want to use their newfound superpowers for good or evil. It’s that kind of heady decision that makes life living, you know? That and jelly donuts.

So yeah, that’s the game. So of course it would make a pretty cool sounding movie, which is probably why Sony Pictures has paid screenwriter Sheldon Turner a cool 7-figures for his pitch to adapt the game into a movie. Yes, they paid Turner for the pitch. Note: he hasn’t written it yet (what downturn economy?), and Sony hasn’t even acquired the rights to the game yet, though that’s a given since, well, the game’s publisher is Sony Computer Entertainment and you gotta figure they have the inside track.

THR says Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce the videogame-to-movie.

Below: Nothing impresses the ladies like shooting blue lightning from your hand. Oh yeah.
