Well, I’ll say this about the new “Bourne Legacy” Japanese trailer: whoever cut it really got to the point of the franchise — it’s about a super spy who punches lots of people, shoots even more people, and there are shady CIA types in suits milling around offices trying to figure out ways to kill him and getting uber frustrated that they can’t. Basically the last three “Bourne” films in a nutshell, except now it’s Jeremy Renner in the Bourne shoes. Check it out, check it outers.
By the way, I also love the official synopsis for the film. I’ve never seen someone be called a “narrative architect” before, so this is very novel:
The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.
Starring Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Corey Stoll, Oscar Isaac, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, and directed by Tony Gilroy, said narrative architect.
Bourne-lite punches and shoots his way onto screens August 3, 2012.
