Purple Crime Fighting Time! Trailer for the SyFy Channel’s new Phantom

Comic Book Movie News, TV News, The Phantom (2010) Mini-Series, Videos — By Nix on September 30, 2009

Really, he’s wearing purple. If you’re going to go and change the Phantom’s costume completely, shouldn’t you also change the color, too? Why bother holding onto the ridiculous purple if you’ve already chucked the costume? I’m just sayin’. Anyways, that’s probably one of the things you’ll be wondering when RHI Entertainment’s 21st century version of The Phantom lands on the SyFy Channel as a mini-series (and backdoor pilot) sometime in 2010. The first trailer for it below.

The legendary superhero returns in this modern-day and action packed miniseries event. When Kit Walker (Ryan Carnes) learns of his father’s death, the adventurous young man inherits the mantle of his superhero father. As the new Phantom, the 21st in the Walker line, Kit vows to uphold and honor his ancestors’ creed—to fight crime and injustice throughout the world.

Starring Ryan Carnes, Cas Anvar, Isabella Rossellini, Sandrine Holt , Cameron Goodman, Trevor Hayes, Robert Crooks, Ellen David, and directed by Paolo Barzman.

What’s wrong with purple? LOL Sam L. says it’s a regal color. Hence the use of it for Mr. Glass in “Unbreakable” and the purple bladed light saber in Star Wars. Purple can work. It’s a darker color, and yet not bnlue like EVERYONE else uses. The show looks interesting. I like the organic nature of which the new costume comes. The way Kit basically looks at it like “REALLY?!” and the “I’m not wearing that!” line is perfect. Not sure about the visor, but it kinda makes sense cause a domino mask draws people to your eyes and those can be a give away. The body armor makes sense in this day and age. I’ve seen the concept art for this, but I still want to see a full pic of him in costume. Looks better than Painkiller Jane, and as good if not better than Blade the Series. Though that was just bad casting, and I still say if they had gotten Michale Jai White to play him, the show wouldn’t have gotten cancelled.

Don’t know anything about the characters except vague memory of the Billy Zane movie. That’ll probably help

The Billy Zane film was decent but campy. They should have gone darker. Everyone panned it because it wasn’t Batman (1989) and there was no rubber suit, but Zane bulked up for the part and they had an interesting spandex suit with a silk screened pattern that made a skull. It looked better than the crappy classic costume they put on the manequin in this. I wouldnt wanna wear that either.
