Anchor Bay Films has picked up U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K. and New Zealand rights to the remake of the 1978 cult classic “I Spit On Your Grave”. The remake is coming to you courtesy of director Steven R. Monroe, who has done a couple of nice B-horror movies in the past, including “It Waits” with Cerina Vincent and “House of 9” with Dennis Hopper. The “Grave” remake will star Sarah Butler (left) as a city girl who travels to a cabin to write a novel, only to find herself the victim of assault and rape at the hands of some greasy locals. She lives, and returns to exact brutal revenge against her assailants. Much fun is had by all. Well, except for the guys she’s killing, that is.
Meanwhile, the lovely and vivacious Carla Gugino (“Sin City”) has joined the cast of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s revenge actioner “Faster”. The film, currently shooting under director George Tillman Jr., stars former wrestler turned actor Johnson as an ex-con out to avenge his brother’s murder with a deadly to-do list. Gugino, who previously starred in “The Race to Witch Mountain” remake with Johnson, will play the detective hot on Johnson’s trail, who is hell-bent on connecting the killings with a decade-old case. Hotness ensues.
Previous reports had Billy Bob Thornton also playing a cop on the Rock’s trail. I’m not sure if that means Gugino has replaced Thornton, or if they’ll now be two cops on our main man’s exhaust pipe. In any case, Gugino joins a hottie-filled cast that already includes notable Hollywood lovelies Maggie Grace, Salma Hayek, and Moon Bloodgood.
Note: Reports have Gugino replacing the previously cast Salma Hayek, who had to pull out of the film at the last minute. The Variety article cited above doesn’t mention this, FYI.
