Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis as sisters? Witch sisters? Hey, it’s Oz, anything’s possible, right?
Weisz is the latest name said to be “in negotiations” to join Sam Raimi’s “Wizard of Oz” prequel, “Oz, The Great and Powerful”, which has already attached James Franco as Oz, the man who would eventually become the great wizard of, well, Oz. Mila Kunis has also been cast as one of the sister witches, Theodora, while Weisz would play Evanora, the evil half of the sisters who intends to rule the land and wants Theodora to join her campaign.
The prequel would chronicle how Franco’s Oz, who isn’t so great and powerful when we first meet him, eventually becomes the Wizard in L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz”. Oz is described as “a snake oil salesman who finds himself dealing with real magic when his balloon carries him into a fabled land and he runs into genuine witches.” Franco replaced Robert Downey Jr., who was originally attached to the role.
Raimi is expected to start shooting “Oz” by 2013.
