I just finished watching this film and I am completely blown away. This is by far the best story, plot, and action I have seen come from Thailand. The action in a few other things may seem more grand, but I actually thought the sheer brutality and style of this movie went leaps and bounds beyond Everything Ive seen. Even beyond Mr Jia who I love so much. Ive also never really liked many feminine action starts because they don't carry the same intensity of their actions for the most part as their male counterpart, except for the legends like Michelle Yeoh. Before watching this Zhang Ziyi was the only female I could watch in an action role for the last few years and take seriously but I need this chick from Thailand to learn some English and bring the real spotlight to this corner of the earth.

I'm sure you can tell by the writing that I am completely stoked right now. I am going to buy it this week for safe keeping and reference and I am changing a script immediately to incorporate this chick lol.

Like Dedpool said, I usually just show my friends the fights, but I dont think I can do that with this movie. Sure the ending got a little crazy with the far out fluids from women who have the stench that brings crazy egyptian women out of the catacombs, but hell, I see awesome potential for everyone in this film. I also felt the acting was top notch, and may be misleading due to the type of characters that make up the main gang but Sinam was extra excellent and the other two were definitely personality driven to perfection. The fourth member who showed up out of nowhere was good in his limited moments as well.

I cant wait to see what she does next.

Sounds like a good time to me. Sometimes expecting too much may ruin a movie. Dark Knight ruined any comic or toy related movies for my friend because now they all have to be DK calibur films...I know that isn't going to happen. but he's been spoiled now. Chocolate was good but even I don't watch the whole movie anymore. Just the fights as the stoiry was pretty thin. Interesting but thin. So like you say silly sotry stiching fights together is what i expected too. Hell Xino even Ong Bak and Tom Yung Goon have pretty thin stories. Ones about a statue and the other's about finding an elephant. I mean really, come on? Break dancing drunken muay thuy with nice smelling women is par for the course. Lol.

To be honest, I'm really not that big a fan of hers, but I try to review a movie based on what it is, as opposed to what I wish it was. Could it have been better? Oh heck yeah, but what're you gonna do? I went into it expecting little more than a silly story stitching together a series of fights. I got that. And to be honest, in my book, the film gave me my money's worth as a result.

NIX you were too merciful with the review, it's like you too are a fan of Jeeja but didn't want to bash this latest movie or say bad stuff about it. (it's good to be a fan as I am too).

Yes people pay money to see the fighting, but you have to remember that, all fighting and no story will get old so fast and you will grow tire of fighting! Unless there's a descent story.

This movie starts off alright, everything was really fast paced, meaning the director is trying to get to the point of the movie, yet because of these you wouldn't even know anything about all characters shown.
Getting nearly to the middle of the movie was the part they reviewed why she was saved, which was a good plot twist that explained so much.

By the time you get pass the middle of the movie, it turns to sh*. Because the story gets deeper and stupider, seriously, "women with strange smell":/ Couldn't they say at least, women with strange smell are the ones who wears perfume:/ And the main fighting style of the movie Breakdancing mauy thai with drunken boxing, which was forgotten half way in the movie.

Chocolate was a good movie, but not the type I'll own on DvD and rewatch without it getting old to me, it's just a movie I'll watch once. Though the reason why Jeeja was so famous was the amount of self stuns she did:/

In this movie, using less stuns, she defies a new way mauy thai could be used.

Finger crossed for a next Jeeja movie with good storyline.
Seriously the director of Ong Bak movies, knows how to make an Action movie but can't make a movie with good storyline!

Yeah, Chocolate was much more serious so those of you who loved Chocolate might not appreciate the slapstick humor and the ridiculous explanations for everything. Still, just like a real-life anime so depending on whether you appreciate seeing real-life anime (honestly, some stuff work better in cartoon form), your mileage might vary.

Man I got this movie as well as Chocolate and they are both the most interesting of all martial arts films. Raging Phoenix is exactly the type of fighting and storyline I would come up with. Love the dancing, the music, and the long epic fight scenes at the end. I can't stand when they have a 1 minute fight scenes in some movies. But not in Jija's movies. It is awesome and have watched this movie at least 3 times a week since I got it.

I caught this in the cinema today! These time, it was with a boisterous crowd who were laughing at the jokes at the beginning. I guess who won't be laughing when the 3 drunken dancing + muay thai (which I mistakenly taught was Copoiera earlier) combo martial artists are named Pig Shit, Dog Shit and Bull Shit (translated from Thai) respectively. Going by their names and their ridiculous form of martial arts (it's not a personal opinion when the heroin gets her butt stuck in a chair and uses it as a weapon), I was initially disappointed because it was too silly to be something like Chocolate.

Of course, I didn't read the review above first so I went into the cinema just expecting a simple storyline like Chocolate. I thought it was cool enough when the story got a bit more serious but it was really cool when they started to have an explanation for everything from the beginning although the explanation could be something out of the pages of Harry Porter. *LOL*

Actually, come to think of it, this movie reminds me so much of Japanese anime, and a very specific one at that - Bleach. For all you Bleach anime fans, you would probably love this. It starts out with slapstick humor but the story suddenly gets serious with interesting but illogical explanations being thrown at you. Just like the anime, the fight scenes are superb but they are too long for their own good. Finally, it can get all emotional too with the heroine calling out the hero's name for more than a minute! What a real life anime indeed! *LOL* I loved it although the other cinema goers were getting really restless at the end and shouting, "KO" everytime they thought the show was going to end! When it did finally end, they were whispering, "lesbians" instead. I'll leave you to figure out what that means when you've finished watching the movie. ^o^

See I bought "Chocolate" just from the trailer. I'm doing the same for this. I don't even show the whole movie to my friends, just the fights, as I can pretty much explain the plot a I'm fast-fowarding through the "plot." I plan on doing the same with this, though, like "Chocolate" I will watch it myself so I can properly explain the thought provoking, and emotionally grand plot that the film has. =-)
