Jonathan Hensleigh Sells Nine Lives to Bruckheimer

Written by Nix | September 19th, 2007 | 0 Comments |

I have to admit, I could barely contain my anger at Jonathan Hensleigh’s Godawful take on the Punisher, and I’m still pissed to this day that Hensleigh took a badass, merciless vigilante and turned him into a loser who goes around plotting Shakespeare-inspired revenge against his foes. But never mind that. Variety says Jonathan Hensleigh has sold his original script “Nine Lives” to Jerry Bruckheimer. The premise of the script is pretty groovy: It’s about a Manhattan detective called Nine Lives because of the number of shootings he has survived while on duty. Now that’s pretty cool. Hopefully the main character doesn’t go around battling guitar-slinging assassins.

More from Variety:

Like the protag, “Nine Lives” wouldn’t die. Hensleigh first sold the project to Disney while he was a Manhattan-based lawyer out in L.A. to interview with George Lucas for a writing job on “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.” Disney’s Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Hoberman and Donald De Line bought it, but the contract lapsed. He pitched it to Bruckheimer while they were making “The Rock,” but both were too busy to deal with it until now.

Again, please, no guitar-slinging assassins…
