Ray Stevenson Will Punish the G.I. Joe Sequel

Ray Stevenson is big and mean and he can play many things, but a “ninja master”? That’s a bit of a stretch. Of course, his character in “Joe” canon may be “saboteur, ninja master and explosives expert”, but I’ll go out on a limb that they’ll snip the ninja part (possibly replacing it with badass masked guy) when Stevenson joins the cast of Jon Chu’s “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes”.

The former “Punisher” leading man will play a villain name Firefly in the sequel. More on the character:

Firefly’s given name is unknown. Even Cobra Commander doesn’t know his real name or what he looks like. Firefly is a ninja master, a saboteur, and an expert in all NATO and Warsaw Pact explosives and detonators. He always places his charges in the proper location for maximum damage. His fees are paid into a numbered Swiss bank account, and are always paid in advance. He makes no guarantees, and gives no refunds.

Firefly also tends to go together with Black Out and Munitia as H.I.S.S. (short for Hierarchy of Infiltration, Stealth, and Sabotage).

The role will pit Stevenson against “Joe” returnees Channing Tatum as Duke and Ray Park as Snake Eyes, along with newcomers Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Roadblock, Elodie Yung as Jinx, D.J. Cotrona as Flint, and more recently, former “Wonder Woman” Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye.

Chu is scheduled to start production on “Rise of Cobra” in Louisiana by the end of the Summer for a 2012 release date.
