Real Steel (2011) Movie Image

Check out your first look at the Hugh Jackman sci-fi action movie “Real Steel”. Jackman plays a deadbeat dad and former boxer who goes into the robot boxing business. Basically, robots fighting in the ring. I don’t know, the idea is kinda sketchy, especially since it’s actually robots fighting in a ring. Anyways, the teaser trailer is courtesy of Den of Geek, so here’s hoping the movie’s got some, ahem, punch in it.

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn, Olga Fonda, Dakota Goyo, Julian Gant and directed by Shawn Levy.

Going the distance October 7, 2011.

Does anyone else love “Robot Jox” as much as I do?

Ha! I loved that movie. They made a sequel, didn’t they?

“Robot Wars” I believe. Actually someone should remake that with some more proper robot action.

Loved it. It was pretty decent for what it was worth. Robot Wars wasn’t as good.

I had no idea the movie was this far along, but it looks fun. Plus, the robots don’t seem too densely detailed and combined with their relatively small size, the crunchy action should hopefully be easier to follow than in the “Transformers” movies.

Agreed. And yea a “Robot Jox” rmeake (with a better name) wouldn’t be bad at all. or they could just make a Gundam flick. LOL. Thats another anime that isn’t completely steeped in Japanese lore and culture that could be done well.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I think a “Galactica”-style reboot/remake/reimaging/importing of “Gundam” would be a pretty cool idea. Granted, I only know it from the movies set during the original Char/Amuro timelines, but I remember they dealt with the same themes of social and evolutionary change and morally murky good and bad guys that was “Galactica’s” bread and butter

Don’t know about a “Galactica” style remake but yeah that’s par for the course for any Gundam except “G Gundam” really.

I am pleasantly surprised this looks as good as it does. I’m in.

Wasn’t this a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode???

I believe it was, though just the premise, I think.

… starring the one and only Lee Marvin, Maj. Reisman himself. And according to wikipedia, the “Twilight Zone” episode and this movie may both originate from the same Richard Matheson short story.

    Hmm. Sounds interesting.

“Robot Jox” / “Arena” / “Crash and Burn” were all movies of the same universe :)
