It’s hard to believe, but Rebecca De Mornay (of “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” and “Risky Business” fame) is now playing mothers in movies. Okay, so this mother in the remake of “Mother’s Day” happens to be atypical — she’s a psycho who has raised two equally psychotic boys who will do anything to please her, even terrify and torture hapless young lady campers.
That was the premise of the Troma original, anyway. The remake, from “Saw” director Darren Lynn Bousman will take the setting out of the woods and back into the homestead, where the psycho boys and their psycho mother (De Mornay) return to their old home to torture the new occupants and their guests.
Jaime King will play the female lead, the lady of the house. Also in the cast are Shawn Ashmore, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Matt O’Leary and Deborah Ann Woll.
With De Mornay’s casting, THR says the film will now commence shooting this month in Winnipeg.
